Biography |
- When Charles the Simple's half brother, Carloman, King of the Franks died, Charles was too young to rule so hero of the Siege of Paris, Odo was named king. When Charles came of age, he tried to exercise his birth right. He was not successful until the death of Odo. Then, Robert, instead of trying to become king himself pledged his elegance to Charles. 20 plus years later, Robert took advantage of unrest to drive Charles into exile, becoming king in 922. One year later, Charles tried to come back and Robert was killed in battle. Some say it might have been in one on one combat with Charles. However, Charles was defeated and never regained power, dying in prison several years later.
