  Biography	From Henry de Peyster Baudouin: "belonging to the family of the lords of Exaerde, Loovelde, Mariakerke, Vaernewyck and of the Gruut of Ghent. The family derived its name from de Gruut, the special privilege of making and selling malt. It also entitled the family to the hereditary position of masters of the influential Brewers' Guild. L'Espinoy in his publication relative to the nobility of Flanders (1631) remarked that the de Gruutere family was one of the richest and noblest of Ghent."
