  	His daughter's baptismal record said he was from Arredondo en las Montañas de Santander (Arredondo in the Mountains of Santander). When Vicente left Arredondo, the newly formed provence was called Santander, named for the capital city. Shortly after that the province was renamed Cantabria.

  Biography	He was one of the principal sugar plantation owners in Havana and owned a large fleet of ships many of which sailed between Cuba and the US. He was one of the first Cubans educated in a US university (possibly Yale) and was trained as a civil engineer. He built the first important canal in Cuba.
