I was first aware of Marietta from a probate announcement in the Hamburg Independent, 2 August 1895 for Sarah Black. Being the last surviving child James Ayer and Sarah Bradley, Sarah Black wanted to give all her assets to 23 of her surviving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
One was listed as Mattie M Berelle of Albion, New York. I quickly found Mattie (or Marietta) and her Find-a-grave.com link said she was the daughter of Nicholas Beal and Mary L. Ayer with no sources as to the parents. Also her husband was listed as John Judson Barrell was not in the cemetery.
For more proof I found Mattie living next door to Mary Ayer Beal with Sarah Black, Mattie’s aunt in 1850. Nicholas Beal had died and Sarah had no kids so it’s likely that Mattie moved in with her aunt.
John Judson Barrell was living nearby with his parents.
That was the only census that would have Marietta’s name prior to the birth of her child Lolah in 1851. John Judson was buried nearby in Evans Center Cemetery having died in 1864.
