    Notes:

    Anecdote:
Donald went to Notre Dame where he was a lineman on the football team. After a year there he left to join the Air Corps. He had to lose a lot of weight before he could join. In October of 1944 Donald was assigned to a B-24 bomber crew. On 17 October, they met at Westover Field, Massachusetts. Two days later moved to Chatham Field in Savannah, Georgia where they trained for two and a half months with 27 other crews. They left Chatham Field on 31 December for Italy.
They joined the 767th Bomb Squadron at Torretta Field southeast of Cerignola, Italy.
They flew many long-range missions from there bombing Austria and Germany. On the morning of 31 March, they left for a mission to bomb the Linz Benzol Plant in Austria with 16 other B-24s. When they were out over the Adriatic the weather started to deteriorate. The planes spread out to avoid collisions. For some reason, possibly prop wash, around 10:20 am Donald’s plane went into a dive. They disappeared into the clouds and were never heard from again. This was only a month before the last mission and the end of the war.
