  • Name Wadsworth Family
    Gender Male
    Biography
    • The name Wadsworth is believed to be Saxon. It is the combination of two words. The first is Wade, meaning a meadow or ford. The second is Worth and it could mean a possession, a farm, a court, a place, a fort, or an island. The combined meaning is thought to be the farm or place in the woods. This implies that the first people with that name were woodsmen. It is therefore possible that not all Wadsworths are not of the same descent. However, there is one line that has been traced back as far as 1379. There are two known Wadsworths that moved to New England in the 1630s; William and Christopher (the progenitor of our line). It is not known if they were related.
