Jane talks of traveling through Rockets and Ft. Monroe.   Ask for several things.



My Dr Dr Children all.  If Clemens can come on with Mary and Children o Tuesday we will meet them at Rockets, while they are discharging [Corps] at Fortress Monroe which will take an hour Step ashore to Telegraph office & telegraph to US Collector of Internal Revenue U. S. to send an ambulance down to Rockets no explanation wanting, no pay.  walk in & give the message & walk out as Sam [diditake] Crackers & [Gingerb..] for the children & [selies] enough & cheese ask Jenny to send me a few sheets, pillow slips, quilts & blankets, make up a Deal Box, a few towels & a few of the Shiped [Licks] Hannah and Emma will help you.  I am sorry to hear of sweet babe being sick, how much I think of her, give the girls & your self stamps enclosed to write me, I think it strange they do not write me, I sent them paper & envelopes & stamps, now help May to get off tell Ira I am so grateful to him for his nice letter & read it to Mrs [Nustine] how anxiously she [Enjoied] about you Jenny & was [any] so when yr letter came, Same will give you an [neet] I am from place to place give my love to all, perhaps, dr Jenny you can make us a visit in a week or two in the meantime dr Jenny [jarevease] [your] [jandy] & [affct] [Nwthe] Mrs Watsen expects for you 'Jane' Love to Ira baby Emma Hannah Julia & [Johenno] & [Annty] & Sambo when you see him   yr J F J

Invitation

Invitation to the home of Postmaster General Creswell and his wife

John Creswell was Postmaster General from March 5, 1869 to June 22, 1874.  During that time, January 31st fell on a Monday in 1870.  It could have been for Ira.  He was just about to be appointed Special Agent for the Treasury Department, had been stationed in Richmond and would soon be stationed in Norfolk.
